Default Possible Duragno Purchase

Hi all, I've been on the hunt for a 4wd, been looking at a few Rams, but I've read plenty about the transfer case exploding and cad issues, as well as death wobble.

Durango is a '00 with 180k, not too worried about mileage, here's the link: http://greensboro.craigslist.org/cto/3561332482.html

Are the 4wd systems and front ends more reliable than the Ram's? Anything I should be aware of on the Durango's?

I wouldn't been have considering one but they can be amazingly cheap and full of options.

Thanks.

Clean looking Durango.

You can probably get them down a few bucks though.

I picked mine up with 179K for 2K. It wasn't as clean, but you get the idea. Of course here in MN, we have rust on just about everything though.

Thanks for the feedback. How do you like your 4wd system?

I've been looking at a few, one is blue like yours for $3400 it's a '01 and another gold one but a '99 for $3k.

So far 4wd has been great, although I haven't had to use it more than a couple times in the 12K I've had this D for.

I only use it if I really need to, in the snow. I bought the D for a Winter/Rainy day vehicle, so I treat it nicely and in return it doesn't break on me and I don't have to take the G8 out in the crappy weather.

I actually almost bought a second D last week. It's a 2000 4.7L SLT 4wd, with 175K on it. The Tranny is slipping in it, but I happen to have a spare tranny. They only wanted 1K/bo...and it has new tires and leather.

I told my wife, but she didn't like the idea of 2 D's sitting in the driveway .

Not sure what your budget is, but if you look for 02 or 03, you can get the 545RFE tranny (same as 45RFE basically, but programed to used the 5th gear) for a little better gas milage. Not all 02s had it, so you'd have to look at the window sticker or count the shifts while test driving.

Here is an example of a pretty decent deal:

In your neck of the woods rust. Balljoints and I see a lot more heat issues. Gas MPG is tipical for 5000 lb truck.

that's not a 2000, its an 01-03. Front bumper's crooked, so you should check if it's been in an accident.

I did notice the bumper, but I figured it was just a normal Dodge bumper.

Ah. Gotcha. I did a KBB value of their zip code and the option below excellent for condition, since they didn't post pictures of the inside, and it would appear they're about $8-$900 over KBB value.

Probably pass on this one, have found lots of others at a better price. Although I'm amazed at the mileage on some of these.. Well over 200k...
