Help !!!!
98 Durango been giving me trouble with irrattic idle , rpm surges , and so on . After searching the forum it sounded like the tps and AIG might be the answer . I replaced tps first . Helped some , still having some problems . Replaced air idle control , cleaned out throttle body , but didn't actually take it off . I had terminals off battery . Turned on ig. and lights to drain comp. and reset . Hooked up battery . Started right up altruugh it seemed to be running fast. Took it for a short ride , ran good . Check eng. light was on and still idling fast . I decided to take off cables again and try to reset comp. . Well now it won't start at all . Turns over great ,spits and sputters a little and then wont do anything .Any help or suggestons aprreciated .
I replaced the tps and aic as stated in an earlier thread . Now I am idling around 1200 rpms and have a cel on . I don't have a way to check code . I realize now I should have taken off tb and cleaned thoroughly. I am some what mechanical but have never messed with tb before . Am I missing something ? Will the computer reset itself if I drive it as is or do I have to take off the tb and clean or should I be looking for something else, like a vacum leak ? Any help would be appreciated .
I am going to give it one more shout out then I will have to take it to a mechanic . I have a 98 durango, 5.2 engine , 4 wheel drive . I replaced IAC and it is running a very high idle around 1500 rpms now . I was asking what the next logical step would be in the troubleshooting process . Any help would be appreciated . I know this seems to be a problem when replacing this part , but I don't see any answers . Thanks
have you cleaned the tb? i mean REALLY cleaned it just using the spray is not always enough, what about replacing the TPS?

Honestly , I sprayed a little carb cleaner in the aic port and wiped it out . I now know it wasn't the way to do it . I am going to take it a part today and give it a good cleaning. I am hoping not to have to take the tb off completely , but we will see . I did replace the tps previous to the aic . I also read some where to take the aic out and have someone put the ignition in the on position to see if it moves . Thanks for the reply .
Hey Wallkicker, you should really get that code/cel read. Autozone/Advance Auto does it for free or you can get a cheap reader for fifty bucks use it then return it. Much better than throwing parts at it. Make double sure you load test your battery and make sure your clamps and cables are tight and corrosion free as this will give you all kinds of symptoms
