another issue with my durango

when I bought my 2001 durango R/T about 4 months ago it came with all the receipts from small stuff like wipers all the way to major stuff like the new raidator and transmission rebuild. the transmission rebuild is my problem now. when I bought it the durango had 181000 miles on it and only 6000 miles on the transmission rebuild. the engine light was on so I took it to the parts store to have it ran. they said it was the gas cap and three transmission sensors. I then proceded to take it to my local transmission shop and they took the pan off and saw the strawberry milkshake and said that it would need a complete engine and transmission flush. I told them that the previous owner had just installed a new radiator (one week prior to my buying it) and showed him the receipt for that. he then told me that when they put the radiator on they did not flush like they were supposed to. hence the recomendation of a complete flush. I then took it my body shop where I have all my work done to have the flush (transmission man does not do flushes, he sends that work to my local body shop). they took the pan off and said that the transmission man put too much fluid in and that it was not worth flushing and that they would drain the new fluid out and put it back in to the full mark on the dipstick. they also told to just trade it in because it was not worth fixing. so that is my question should I have a complete flush or just trade it in. it shifts great and still drives great like nothing was ever done to it. sorry for a long post.

So what's your problem now? You say it runs and drives fine... Did you have it all flushed and its full to proper specs and its good fluid now in trans and radiator?

Haven't had it flushed yet. Transmission man said to flush it and the body shop said it is not worth flushing and to not waste my time and money on a flush

Do not do a flush, it'll just cause more problems. If you have to change the fluid only do a purge (take off one of the cooler lines and let it push the old fluid out while putting fresh fluid in). Use ATF+4 only.

OK they also recommended a coolent flush would that be the same thing or different

Same thing, just drain and refill it.

Usually when they say flush they mean forcing the coolant through the system with a high pressure and/or different flow path than normal, which can cause worse problems immediately or down the road.

Just curious too, was it driving and shifting fine? I'm wondering if maybe those codes were still there from before the transmission was rebuilt and weren't cleared.
