Pulling a car on a trailer?
I've got an '03 Durango 4.7. Wondering if its ok to pull a trailer with it? I don't have the tow package (as far as I know), but I have a class III hitch that I put on it with the 4 pin light kit. I'm planning on driving it 6-7 hours north to PA from NC to take my Mustang to Carlisle next June. If not than I'm gonna have to rent a truck AND a trailer. Thanks for the info!
I'm not sure what gears I have. IIRC, isn't there a sticker in the glove box that has what gears are in it?
I was concerned with not having a tranny cooler and not having HD rear shocks. I'm going to try and find some mirror extenders also. Not sure what else I will need or what else I should be concerned with.

Yeah there should be a sticker in the glove box. HD shocks aren't needed it just makes sway less of an issue when towing in a wind with a not so smooth road. The ride height is determined by the leaf springs.
If you had to put a hitch on yourself, then it probably isn't set up for towing from the factory, which means no tranny cooler and 3.55 gearing, but I may be wrong. If this is the case, a car on a trailer will probably be close or over the tow rating for it. Does this trip have a lot of hills? If so it's going to working to maintain speed

Mine came with 3.92 gearing and no tow package.
Wouldn't be the first time I have been wrong. I think I just assumed that anyways, don't know if I actually saw it anywhere

Just looked. Sticker says 3.55 gears. As for hills, I've never been there so I'm not sure.
So I'm guessing that it will be too much for my Durango? Sux, cause now I have to debate on renting a truck AND trailer or just a trailer and borrow a truck.
I've got 185,000 miles on her now, I don't want to overwork it and break something.
