I plan on keeping it simple. I want a nice clean sound just loud enough to wake the neighbors but not so loud I need ear plugs

Make sure to get shallow replacement speakers otherwise you won't be able to get the windows down the whole way...

My 2000 didn't need shallow mounts. They had some spacers that were mounted to the door and the speakers were mounted to the spacer. Of course the 6.5in speakers didn't even remotely fit the spacers correctly so I had to do the biggest redneck mount job I have ever seen to get them mounted. Now the spacers are butchered but it works and doesn't sound half bad

Im thinkin 3 or 4 12's in the back. I h a ve third row seats that I dont use so I can fold them down and have room for the speakers and amps.

I copy/pasted my response in the DIY thread under speaker replacement with the links for you to check out. I seriously do not recommend shallow speakers. Full range sound is distorted at higher decibels vs the non shallow speakers.

here is the link I posted concerning speaker replacement for Durangos. It's a long post so read it to the end to know the whole scoop.

https://dodgeforum.com/m_280962/tm.htm

within that post check out these two sites:

Okay, I have found a website that sells nothing but special speaker adapters that let you mount aftermarket speakers to OEM mounting brackets or hole locations.

http://www.mjmautoinnovations.com/sakc65t65.htm

Also, here is a website that shows you how to replace the oem's with aftermarket speakers on a 2000 Durango. You will need 4 of these for front/back.

http://www.car-speaker-adapters.com/items.php?id=SAK011

To make a note on that website, they said 4 screws as Digitoxin said. However, on my 2000 Durango, there were "5" screws, not 4. If you look at the 4 screw locations marked on the website, the 5th screw not shown in the picture is located very near the power side mirror adjustment ****. This is the same for the passenger door where there is no power side mirror adjustment ****.

I found another website that you can actually repair the speakers if only the polyeuthane surround foam is blown. I would have gone this route if I known earlier that I can repair the surround foam material. I still have my OEM infinity's sitting on my shelf in the garage, I am going to go to that website and buy the replacement foam repair kit to repair my oem infinitys in case I want to take out my nice infinitys and put them in another car!!!!
