I've done OBDII live readout monitoring while driving, and the PCM says my 5.9 runs at 201° to 204°. Both motors use the same range thermostat I believe.

I think the first gen should be at 192-195 for both the 5.2/5.9 and 4.7 vehicles.

The factory thermostat for the 5.2 & 5.9 are in the lower 190s and the 4.7 is probably closer to 195. I put a 180 degree thermostat in my 5.2 (they old 318 & 360 were originally designed for 180 thermostats) and my temp stays between 178 and 188 (according to my fan controller's readout).

This is where my gauge always sits.

There is more to it than that. They were also 'originally designed for' carborators. Computer's trying to optimize things dictate the parameters.

Yours runs a slightly cooler than mine. This pic was taken a few months before the transmission rebuild so it will be interesting to see if the temp drops a few degrees not having the worn parts in it...

I don't go based on the gauges. They are called "dummy" gauges for a reason.

My truck typically runs around 190-198 for the most part.

But here is where mine sat..I assume the cold had a lot to do with the temps staying down lol

Temp (outside) here on the dash

The gauge on the dash does not exactly match up to what the ODB monitor says. My temp gauge is near the 210 mark but ODB monitor says 213-215 degrees with A/C running. DFW doing a 100+ all week this week with Wed reaching 104. My truck will hold around 200-205 on the highway and will barely hold at 220 when doing residential stop and go traffic or idling. May have to re-install my clutch fan until fall season gets here.

Otherwise, my temp is position exactly the same as "that guy" as I have a 180 stat also with no A/C running even with outside temp being over a 100 degrees.

I have a separate temp sensor in the upper radiator hose for the fan controller and it says 180-190 just like the dash does no matter the conditions so far.

I have had no overdrive for the past 8 months. With the engine working just a bit harder than normal i may see a few degrees drop now that everything is overhauled. will be interesting to see..
