Default Over heating / coolant fan issues

I've had a continual issue with over heating in my 2003 Durango 4.7. Most of the time it's been due to the coolant fan going bad. I've had two Dorman parts go bad on me in two years. Has anyone experienced these issues with Dorman fans? Are there any other quality options other than getting corn holed by the dealer?

Does the fan come on at all? Or is the engine overheating even with the fans on?

The factory fan motor died. The first Dorman replacement fans bearings went bad and the fan blade flopped around and the second replacement fan has a dead motor as well. I verified voltage at the motor. It only runs hot when its been driven for a while in temps over 90 degrees and I get stuck in a situation where I'm idling with the A/C on like traffic or a drive through.

What the warranty on the fan modules, 12 months or one year. Or the brake light warranty?

You should have a mechanical fan too, that should be able to handle cooling without the electric one. Maybe the viscous clutch on it is bad if you're overheating.

I agree. The electrical fan is just supplemental cooling for A/C use. The mechanical fan is your primary cooling fan.

I would check the fan clutch on the mechanical fan to ensure it is not bad.

In tx I removed the clutch fan and just used the factory efan. This is 100 degree tx heat.

Sounds like you have some other issues going on...

My truck will not hold cooling with temp above 90. It will hover just over the 210 mark if idling. This is with two additional 10 inch efans mounted in front. Without the two additional efans, the oem efan just won't hold down the temp with a/c on.

OEM efan will hold 180 on the truck all day long even if outside is over 100 degrees but no a/c though.

One thing is odd, I guess during the evenings when the sun sets, and temp is still in the 90's, cooling seems to hold pretty well.

Those 10 inch fans don't have much surface area, so that's probably why they aren't cooling all that well when it's hot.

This is interesting because you are in Dallas. I was in mcallen (Mexico border). Be in the 80s even at 3am down there. Naturally, I always ran my AC and never did any highway driving. Once you get past city signs its just ranch land
