Default when put in D it stays still

finally was able to put in a new transmission on my 98 durango 5.2 and when i put the gear in D it won't move on its own i have to press the gas pedal a little harder. also it feels like if its in a higher gear and won't shift. i go up to 50 mph without it shifting and it takes a little while to get up to 50 miles

Did you flush the cooler lines before putting the transmission in? I would check the fluid level or the governor is sticking. How is the transmission in reverse?

Did you buy the transmission from a dealer? If you did, you would have a 3 year or 100k warranty. And the dealer would need to fix.

The 5.2 will either have a 42/44RE or a 46RE transmission and the transmission defaults to 3rd gear. I don't remember if 98Durango5.2 had said if the check engine light was on.

good to hear that you fixed the Durango...it would not hurt to change fluid ever 30,000 miles, I keep a check on mine and change every 60.000 miles mine has 155000 miles on it now and doing good, but I am not using it as a tow vehicle or hard use, under hard use you may want to go with the 30,000 mile fluid change..

check your owners manual, change it at the prescribed interval in the manual, as long as you use the right fluid you will be fine

FYI the 2002 manual called for 100k fluid change on the 545 behind my 4.7
