Default Turn Signals Not Working, Still...

2000 Durango, 4.7 ltr, 4X4 SLT

Symptoms: Low beam lights not working, turn signals barely work(flash once maybe). Head lights only worked with High Beam engaged.

Replaced: Multi Switch (w/ Mopar factory Part)

Currently: Lights work on low beam, Hi Beam comes on but will not stay on, and turn signals worked briefly - now not hardly at all(just like before)

Service Rep: Said the Multi Switch female Receiving pig tail in the steering column was dirty and possibly burnt contacts. They cleaned it up and reassembled with the hope it would work and this is where I am at.

Please advise: Do I need to get a new receiving pigtail and splice it into the wiring harness?, replace the turn signal relay?, or .... other suggestions.

Thanks

I'd replace the turn signal flasher. Do you have any other issues? Clean the battery connections really good too.

Ok, Thanks for the response everyone. You who guessed the relay was correct. With New turn signal relay/flasher all works great. Turns out the high beam headlights do work but the headlight lenses are so oxidized you can barely see the difference. At least I am road legal now. If anyone has a recommendation on removing the oxidation from the plastic light lenses, let me know.. I have seen TV adds for products that say they work, but ....Well you know.. I think it was Mothers brand ..

Those product will work depending on how bad they are. If they're really bad you could try wetsanding them. After restoring them you need to put some kind of uv protectant on them since the top layer of it will get removed.

Look for the "3M" brand headlight restore kit at your local parts store. It's what I've used on all my vehicles and it has worked great every time! Follow the instructions on the package and you will be ok

I tried a couple different of those kits, and yes they will improve the clarity of the lens but you would be better off in my opinion putting your $20 toward a new aftermarket headlight assembly. See at the end of the day the plastic itself has been damaged by sunlight and weather so even though you can polish it up it will haze over again in a couple months, at least thats what happened to me. If you don't mind re polishing the lenses a few times a year go fer it, but Personally I wish someone would have told me not to waste the money polishing my headlights.

That's why you put a UV protectant on, it replaces the factory UV protectant that you effectively grind off.

That makes sense to me considering what happened to me. What would one use as a UV protectant? You mean like ArmorAll or something?

No, you want a purpose made sealer, such as opti coat. Search around online for headlight uv sealers/protectants and see what you come up with.
