I really don't know what to say about that. I've never heard anything like that before, but at the same time I really doubt that guy would have just made up all of those results. I think this is going to warrant some more research.

I've never heard it before either and when I did research I couldn't find too much credible information on it.

In order to suck more air through a filter you either have to open up the pores in the filter which allows more contaminants through or increase the surface area of the filter media. So I can see how someone can think it is bad for your motor but I am guessing now this is just a guess that the size of particle being let through is inconsequential to the motor in the case of the K&N. I mean where is the air going, the cylinders for combustion which is a dirty process itself. I would also bet the reason that test he speaks of is no longer online is because it can not be substantiated and probably earned them a cease and desist order from K&N attorneys. I agree with you that if K&N filters were actually causing damage to motors more people would be raising hell about it.

I just found this test on bobistheoilguy.com.

After a good bit of reading around it looks like the high flow filters do let more dirt through, but not by a significant amount.

Here's a picture from that test. These pieces of cloth were placed after the filter.

Looking at his graph closer it also shows some questionable results as it says the K&N loaded up to the restriction limit fastest in the test but let through the most dirt, the opposite should be true. Filter law says the finer the filter media the faster it loads up and the more particulate it stops.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. I think the one from bobistheoilguy.com is a better representation.

I also never heard of any problems with K&N filters on the Durango's. But I do know on the 6.7 diesel engines with DEF system, it causes a lot of horsepower problems. Don't back to that other forum, stay here with dodge forum.

A stock engine is not going to make a noticeable difference either way.....

The main benefits for the K&N are us who go wheelin. You can clean it and it won't deteriorate if a little water gets on it. It also keeps water out, well modest amounts, since the oil on the filter is Hydrophobic.
