Question Lights?

I have a 1999 Durango and my 4x4 light does not come on when I engage the 4x4, and my dash lights and running lights come on when I hit the brake... any ideas?

There is a short somewhere causing it... sadly you are headed into a electrical nightmare... i would start by tracing wires under the truck looking for any that are chewed up or burned... you could also unplug the sensor on the transfer case and see if it being bad is causing the short.

If that doesn't work....
Is it still shifting into 4x? If it is not then It could be the blue box(tccm) inside the dash. Mine went bad like you described, replaced it with a junkyard part for about $80. Expect scraped knuckles and a little cursing.

There's no tccm on the 98-00 trucks, it's all mechanical.

Since you say the parking lights come on when you hit the brakes, I'd check the tail lights first. Unplug them and see if the parking light problem goes away, if so you know where the problem is, if not you know where it isn't.

After reading this a few times and doing this ~~> the dumbass light inside my head came on and i thought, why didnt i ask if the bulb inside the cluster was bad?.. You can test all the lights by holding in the odom reset while you turn the key on this you see "chec" inside the odom window... it will cycle throw all the lights you just have to take notice as to if the 4x4 lights come on... might be as simple as a blown bulb or bulbs...

also check around the brake petal for any pinched wires.

I'm not entirely sure if that actually works for the 4wd indicator lights. I'm pretty sure they're hard wired so they won't fail if the rest of the instrument cluster does, at least that's how the FSM makes it seem.
