99 Durango with cold start issues in the morning
Six months ago I got a 99 Durango, 4 x 4, 5.2 engine, with 181,600 miles. Nice looking body, good working condition. Right away I replaced the belt tensioner. Two weeks ago, went to start it in the morning but the battery was dead. Took the alternator to Advance for testing, it was bad. I replaced the alternator. Next morning the battery was dead .Replaced the battery with a new one. Next day, the new battery was dead, charged it, started the truck and went to work. After I parked it, noticed that after turning the ignition off and setting the e-brake on, the BRAKE light on the dash was blinking (with the ignition off). I released the e-brake and the light when off. Next day, left from work, turned on the main road, the Durango died on the middle of the road, started it again, died again in front of my driveway, Replaced a cracked coil, the Ignition pickup BWD/Camshaft sensor,Distributor Cap and Rotor. It started right away. Now back to the BRAKE light on the dash flashes with the ignition off and the e-brake applied. I released the e-brake and will test tomorrow early to see if it the battery is going to hold charge overnight and if it is going to crank right away. Next day got up early, went to start the Durango it will crank but I have to leave the foot on the gas pedal or it dies. Any suggestions?

I'd make sure all of the battery connections are good and clean. Make sure you check where the cable goes into the PDC and where they get clamped onto the connectors at the battery too.
Thanks for the reply. I just replaced the AIC, PCV, and air filter. The Durango stays running but I will test tomorrow morning in the cold. Now I am back to the original issue; when I turn the ignition off and set the e-brake, the BRAKE light on the dash flashes on and off.
Not really sure there. I will say though that having poor power connections can make the computers do weird things. Make sure all of the connections are clean (some of that oxide is clear so make sure you wirebrush things) then put some motor oil on them to keep them clean.
My brake light flashes on and off if I forget to release the e-brake and try to drive. Is yours flashing with the key off & out of the ignition? Also don't forget to reset the PCM after the new AIC if you didn't already.
Disconnect the neg. battery terminal and turn the ignition to crank for about 20 seconds, this will drain the electricity from the system that stores the old settings. reconnect the negative battery terminal. Close the hood and then start the vehicle and let it idle. Your D will need to go through several normal drive cycles to relearn so you may notice it running better over time or you might not.
