Default ABS Module

So I was driving home the other day, when my abs and park brake lights popped up on the dash. When I stopped, I heard what sounds like a fan going, but when I popped the hood, it was coming from the ABS module. I think that's what its called, its the piece in front of the brake booster that has steel lines coming into it. The noise stayed on even after I shut the truck off, and I had to pull the fuse under the hood to get it to stop. My question is, what is the actual name of this module thing? I cant find it on rockauto to get a price. I am hoping the real problem is my speed sensor, I am going to unhook it, put the fuse back in and see if the noise is still there. Anybody have any other input?

You can just unplug the module temporarily until you get the replacement part to prevent the abs plungers from going bad from constant cycling. The ABS control module will not be found on Rockauto. This exact same thing happened with my 01. The sound you are hearing is the abs solenoids cycling as if your tires are slipping. Check the speed sensors first as they are the cheaper option. Assuming the speed sensors are ok and the module is indeed bad you will need to have it rebuilt or replaced, some people have had good luck having them rebuilt but I didn't. I sent my abs module in twice to the same company for rebuilding and they claimed it was good but they were wrong and I was out over $100. I ended up buying one off ebay for around $70. I had to search for bit to find one with the exact #s on it but that solved my problem.

Ok. The speed sensor is on the top of the rear differential correct?

That is correct. You also have one on each of the front hubs. If you look them up on rock auto you will see what they look like if you don't already know.

You can check the sensors across the terminals with a multimeter if you have one.

The resistance should be:

4X4 front sensors 893-1208 ohms
4X2 front sensors 1800-2200 ohms
all rear sensors 1600-2300 ohms

I think you may have been a little confused as far as unplugging the abs module. I was referring to unplugging the CAB module(abs module) that is located on the firewall by the master cylinder not to troubleshoot but to stop the ABS from cycling. Keep in mind with this unplugged you will be able to drive the vehicle but without ABS or a speedometer unfortunately. You will need to verify the wheel speed sensors as I explained in my last post. I am betting your speed sensors are ok and it is probably the CAB.

No I understood. I had already unplugged the CAB module, and by unplug I just pulled the fuse.
