Default Cigarette Lighter & 12V AC plugs out.

I plugged my radar detector in, and neither of my plugs worked this morning. I checked the fuses, inside the driver door, and t appeared to be no issues there, but I changed the fuses anyway, no change. My next step would be to take the plugs out and see if there is something wrong there, but it's going to a long boring process taking everything off.

I'm not familiar with my Durango's electrical set up, it is a 1998 Durango 5.9L V8 4x4 SLT Plus.

I doubt there is a fuse built into the plug, but I've seen it before, but unlikely. I did a voltage test, and there is absolutely nothing coming from either plug.

If anybody knows what possible problems could be causing this, please let me know. I'm asking here before I waste my time taking stuff apart.

There are fuses under the hood, inside the door, and up under the dash on the backside of the one fuse box, so you might want to check them.

I found the bugger, it was in the fuse box under the hood. I had checked it before, but I looked at the guide on the cover and missed the label somehow. When you said there was a fuse under the hood too, I found it when I checked just now. That box was so full of dust, I couldn't even see the smaller fuses! Haha, I'll have to take the air hose to it when I get home.

Thanks for helping me out.

I'm trying to make a AC plug for a CB radio using spare crap in my electricians bag, I must've grounded something wrong. But then again, I'm trying to use an old psp charger that had 28 gauge electrical wires in it, and putting 18 guage wires in it. I wasn't sure if the contacts or shade ring from the original housing would hold up to the increase, and they caught fire, almost melting the whole housing. I would make a fuse box with my own design so I wouldn't have to bother with this B/S, but I'm not going to add a bunch of **** to my Rango. I would like to keep it as neat and original as possible. It's not like I'm going to be putting in multiple radio systems, sirens, and light bars in like on my ram.

Glad you found the fuse. I'm a bit confused with what you're trying to do with the CB though.

Since i don't smoke and would never use the cig liter. i took the wires from it and wired it into my CB since its on a key. Then i took the outlet and wired it into the other power outlet so it is now always hot. The cig liter circuit makes a good two way radio circuit for those of us that forget or are to lazy to shut off the radios

P.S if you have issues getting a low SWR reading on you CB feel free to PM me... it can be rather tricky to one on these rigs.

Just curious. Why not just buy an inverter? Pretty cheap these days.

You old-tech guys with inverters and CB's, so cute to watch...lol.

I decided to go new-tech with the ashtray lighter power relocated to a dual-USB socket (2.1A) in the coin pocket (which I never used).

I never really had anything in the cigarette plug before, but that's a good idea, I've drained a battery a time or two before!

I'm thinking of going all out now, I think I'll have one of my buddies help me out and upgrade my power system so I can have an ungodly amount of off-road lights and get a better radio for my truck. I used a spare P.O.S. I'm not sure where I got, and hooked it up, but I'm not getting the power I desire, and I miss being able to talk to everybody from a good ways away. (I've got a lot of home base talkers on the air around here. Some people have no life, I almost want to get one of their 100ft towers and put it on my windmill, I wonder how long of a range I could get with the right set up. ???

I'm gonna post a new thread about the lights.

Just goofing around really, might as well have fun with it. I ought to post pictures tonight of it, worked out rather well, but I'm already tired of it, lol.
