Question Opinions Needed on Purchase Attempt!

Im taking a break from my 96 Ram 2wd RCSB cause my wife needs another auto...We have a 00 Durango with rough body, no vacuum, electrical issues, and no title... She dont want it or any fullsize (v8) cause of the gas guzzling, but I drive it daily & dont care. I put $3k for a new tranny 1 year ago and it now has about 10k miles too...

Locally I found a 99 with a bad tranny for $850, I need opinions/suggestions on should I buy it and how much to offer/negotiate? Its been for sale for the past year...

If all it has is a bad tranny, I would say it is already a decent deal, unless it has 300k on it. Still would try and negotiate if it has been for sale that long. Take two bad rigs, make one good rig out of it.

Yeah, it doesn't look like too bad of a deal already.

I didnt see the full details of that ad because I viewed it on my phone. 200k miles, your going to possibly start seeing other things going bad as well. If the plenum hasnt been done, and most people dont do it, chances are its been blown for awhile and it could have the advanced issues related to it. Clogged cat, bad O2 sensors, potentially cracked heads. All things you can ask him about and use to negotiate in your favor.

Sooo maybe I shouldn't get it cause of possible engine work. I could swap in my motor with 170k miles but same repairs would need to be done. Umm back to square 1 I guess, or I can just take a chance...

*UPDATE* Talk with seller... "yes it uses a bit of oil but no leaks, its a bit sluggish but it may just need a tune up, newer tires, brakes & hitch though..." <<This is what he said.

Thanks for yall help and input so far, Im still thinking.

For $850 you really can't lose. Even if it turns out not to be any good to you, you could easily part it out and make your money back and then some.
