01 durango shuts off
hello everyone the reason I'm writing is because my 01 Durango is shutting down about three times after first running it in the morning. Mostly when the car is still warming up or cold but even when temperature is in the middle it stills shuts off. I have done a complete tune up of the car changing every single kind of oil, spark pkugs, ignition coils hey temperature senso. I have the check engine light on but code read cylinder #7 misfire only. I have asked a few mechanics and do not have an idea why it is doing so and of course wants me to leave the card to do a full check up and I don't have that much money. note that the car will not shut down after he has automatically shut down once or twice I can drive it all day long without any problems or hesitation no rough idle at all. If anyone has any idea or can tell me what I should look into next please help me out. Thank you and have a good day
Maybe some similarity here....................

Dirty IAC ?($45) or a bad TPS ?( $30). When was the last time you ran some fuel system cleaner through it. I'm not a big fan of the in tank fuel filter, and am wondering if the sock is plugged or maybe passed something on to the injector for that cyl.
PS There may be here, but I know over at Dakota-Durango forum there are some tests for the TPS and making sure it is set properly. May even be something for the IAC as well.

Hello everyone, the car turn off after I run it in the morning and come to a FULL STOP ONLY, and it will start right up with no problem. The AIC was changed as well but not the TPS since its idling fine-not rough. The lifters are making noise but I dough that is causing this problem, Remember it turns off only when its cold or 1/4 warm, it was to be almost the middle, (20 minutes warming) to run it with no problems of it shutting down. Oxygen sensor would cause this? no check engine on my dash
I had a Nissan Altima that did this too and it was due to a couple of injectors failing. It started out like that but got steadily worse until it would barely run at all. It was a 4 banger so little easier to notice the loss of power... are you burning more fuel than normal? gas mileage go to crap?

Knowing what engine you have would be useful.
Fuel injectors going is not common at all with these trucks, although not impossible. I'd start with easy things like cleaning the battery connections, since you've already replaced the IAC. Keep in mind that sometimes sensors can be bad out of the box too, my grandpap bought a new IAC for his silverado a while ago, and it turned out he got a bad sensor.

Hello Folks. I came here to investigate this same exact issue with my 2000 Durango with a 4.7L . I just bought it with 108,000 2 weeks ago. My symptoms are exactly the same. I start it up, it wont really idle unless I have foot on gas, I let go and it wont idle and will stall. Finally if I get it hot and start off I'm usually OK. One time I started off and did not let it really warm up and it stalled at entrance to my subdivision. But that time it would not start (crank but no start) for about 5 minutes. And the big issue it has not thrown a code (checked with the Ign Key Method, just gives me P DONE). I can't really tell if my gas mileage is getting worse as I have not even put 100 miles on it yet. Truck runs excellent once its running. In a very short time I have really fallen in love with this truck, its great.
I have read all of the great response's so I guess I will be buying sensors?
Any further thoughts?
@ superjhonxxx Have you found a cause for your issue?
My biggest issue is that this is my sole mode of transportation and its a nightmare to even get this to a shop for me. The seller is one of those "Part Time Dealer On The Side" guys and is trying to help. Biggest issue is without a code, his mechanic is also at a loss.
Thanks for any and all input and suggestions.

Clean the battery terminals really well and see if that helps. If the battery's old you should consider replacing it, or at least get it load tested. A weak battery or bad battery connections can screw with the computer and cause issues with idle and all kinds of other things. The IAC can also cause similar issues with the idle.
