Road Trip!
I too completed a small 200 Mi road trip with no incident (well at least to my truck at least).
On one of the country roads home i got behind a guy driving a '01 Durango.. as we went down the road we seemed to keep a good 2-300 ft between us. About ten minutes of driving down the road, another SUV started to appear coming from the other way. As it got closer i could see it was a newer Jeep (turned out later to be a '13 JGC.. next thing i know the jeep starts screaming into the other lane and creams the D in front of me head on!
The guy in the Durango walked out with a few scrapes and a sore shoulder... Sadly both people in the jeep where killed instantly.

Sounds similar to an accident we had here. A guy crossed the center median doing 30ish on a 35mph speed limit street in town. He was driving a 2001 Ram 1500 hit head on with a '14 grand cherokee. The jeep got totaled and the guy driving it spent a month in the hospital with a shatter pelvis and broken ribs. The ram was relatively fine but the driver was dead. They had to conclude he had a heart attack prior to the collision due to no physical injuries from the accident. Also saw a head on accident between a 2000 ram and a pacifica. The pacifica got totaled out and the ram backed up and drove off with only a few scratches. The were turning opposite directions and met head on in the intersection so relatively low speed there too.

As for long trips, ill be doing 900 miles in my 98 ram 1500 on may 3rd!
About 2 years ago I watched a guy to my right run a red light and smash into a Honda drivers door T-bone. Ram had the grill broke and a little bend in the hood, Honda was completely totaled and paramedics had to extricate her.
Again look at these and ask yourself why the government institute such ignorance to public safety whilst increasing regulations for fuel mileage. Think about it this way, here in the USA they banned incandescent light bulbs in favor of so called "Eco Friendly" which don't save that much, all the while about half the worlds population uses kerosene lanterns.
For me give me a heavy duty frame, solid body, and some engine out in front of me. If I hit someone I want solid, the impact will go into the can not the iron. If I hit a tin can with my 7000 lbs of brute steel into a coke can where's the momentum going, and who is going to take all the abuse? The can, basic physics.

I had a nice road trip to Carson City, NV last weekend. I drove my 1996 dodge avenger for a 530 mile round trip. I avg 32 miles to the gallon and two tanks of gas. The car has a 2.5 with the A604 transmission.
