Looking for answers on 2003 Durango 4.7 engine. CEL came on after changing O2 sensors again. Did self check with key 3 times, no codes but cel lite blinked 10 times then went on steady. any suggestions

I did move the post. So you should get more response from the other members. Also the turning the key off and on 3 times doesn't always work. You need to have a scanner to read the engine codes.

 

I thought it was 4 times?

 

Have you taken it to autozone or advanced they can scan it with obdII tool and erase the codes in most cases? Unless the durango is different than almost all other cars and trucks I have encountered in this case. I am new to dodge entirley so maybe this will not work to clear the cel codes in your system.

 

Our local Advance and Autozone both tell people that they would be breaking several Federal laws if they cleared the codes for you. This may or may not be the case, i never really cared enough to look into it.


When you changed the O2 sensor, did you reset the PCM? If not this could just be false codes and you just simply need to have the PCM reset. Also, what brand sensor did you use? Denso and NTK? are the OEM sensors.. Many have had issues with brands other than them in the past.

You can clear the codes yourself by simply disconnecting the negative battery terminal and either holding the key in the "start" position or have the headlights switch to on for 30 seconds. This will reset the PCM (computer). If i where you though, i would have a scanner hooked up to it first and see just what the code(s) are so you will know later if the return.

 

code scanners aren't that expensive, heck advance has one for $40 that will read and erase (won't tell you what it means, but that's what google is for)

 

I bought a $20 bluetooth one on ebay that connects to my phone with a $5 app.

 

I work at advance on weekends the only codes we are not allowed to mess with are abs codes anything to do with brakes we are not allowed to mess with forbidden! otherwise all else should be discloused to the driver for aid the car or truck.

 

'Torque', right? Thats a great way to go. I bought one of the ELM327 devices, then bought another better one (less crotchety pairing). Now each of my vehicles has one in the console, and the phone is always with me, so I have a scanner whenever I'm out.
