2000 durango 5.9L 2wd not starting initially, then starts and runs fine
oh that was stupid. of those 3 cables with the little c-shaped hooks on the end, we had put one back on wrong. after fixing it, the truck runs great. after cleaning the throttle body, we still have the same problem with the initial start up. we replaced the IAC valve next (didn't do it initially as we were hoping a cleaning would solve the problem and save us $50). we will know by morning if the new IAC valve fixes everything. **fingers crossed**
That is precisely what you needed to do.
Have you tried this:
Have you tried this:
Could be a weak fuel pump. Before starting hold the key in the "Run" position for about 4-5 seconds then turn to "Start". This will prime the fuel rail if the check valve is going out in it. If this is the issue then drop the tank and replace the entire fuel pump. I like to see fuel pressure around 50 psi both throttle open and idle. Measure at the Schrader valve on the fuel rail.
Wow. I could have sworn I'd updated here. We were avoiding doing the fuel pump, as it was the most expensive of all the possible things to do... we decided to just go ahead and do it anyway, and we found that two hoses up under there were rotted and there was gasoline actually leaking out somewhere! we fixed it and the truck runs better than ever.
I really wanted to thank each of you for reaching out to help us. We have not only fixed our truck, but we learned a thing or two in the process.
Also, we just bought another Dodge, so we'll definitely be back with more stupid questions in the future. Thanks again yall!
