Default Cuts out

Hey all!! 2000 Durango 5.9l, 4x4, 200,000 miles, Tranny lost reverse many miles ago... Here's the problem: truck will periodically cut out on highway but will not die, in city driving the truck will die and won't start up again for awhile.. I've noticed that the fuel gauge and temp gauge will also be off while the truck is off. I've replaced coil and the coil pickup that's in the distributor.. What's going on with this truck?

Crank sensors can go bad, Did you have it checked recently? It may have added a code.

so the truck shuts off when the engine bay heats up, and wont restart until it cools down?

if that sounds about right then id be suspecting that your PCM is bad, its overheating and shutting down until it cools off again, recheck the CEL and see if any new codes have popped up

A bad crank sensor can also act goofy when hot. Although the gauges dropping off when it's off sounds like a pcm/bus issue to me.
