Something went terribly wrong on my way into work.
I'm starting to believe I dropped a valve seat, which would make sense for the noise and the cya. 1 misfire. Sadly this may be the end of my truck, if thats what it is it may come down to a new engine, or a new truck, I can't see it being worth putting too much into an engine with so many miles on it. I really don't want to part with it, as I've always really loved these trucks. And worse yet I still owe money on it!
We're planning on doing a compression test to see what that shows, I kind f expect it to not even have compression. If its a head gasket, I'd definitely go ahead and replace that, if it id drop the seat, I don't know that I'll want to spend that much. Depressing times...
For an update I'm seriously considering seeing about trading this in on a 3rd gen. Ram 2500/3500 with the Cummins diesel. My parents offered to help out with some money if it would get me a newer and potentially more reliable truck (IE not as worn out). My Durango needs whatever engine repair, a new tailgate (its rotten!) and a good bit of body work as well, and probably a whole new paint job. I'm just not so sure that it would be worth putting that much money into it, and I have nowhere near enough money just sitting around to even do the engine work, but I would be able to handle the increased payment.
Well, this morning we confirmed that it did indeed drop a valve seat. Anyone want a 2001 Durango with a bad 4.7, newer transmission, needs some body work... As much as it breaks my heart, this poor thing is honestly at the point where its time to say goodbye. I've decided my next truck will be a Ram, whether I get a 1500 with a HEMI, or a 2500 CTD is yet to be seen.
