Default Something went terribly wrong on my way into work.

On the way to work this morning, my truck started doing this, stalled on the road, I managed to get it started again, and pull into a parking lot, where it stalled while stopping in the parking spot. To me it sounds like the exhaust fell off the driver's side or something. It's being towed home, and I won't have a chance to look at it until then, but in the meantime I'm hoping to figure out what I can expect to be dealing with, or at least a good place to start when figuring this extremely frustrating issue out. The engine, until now, has been running great, and the transmission is only a couple years old, the truck has 203,211 miles on it, and this is the first time that, while I've owned it, that its left me stranded in a parking lot or anywhere else. Attached is a video I uploaded to flickr of me starting the truck and how it's running at the moment.

Kinda hard to guess anything based on the pic and the description provided.

Did you watch the video? You have to click on the picture to open the video to get it to play. Here's another try at writing down my experience, but please note, its a video, not a picture, you have to click on it to watch it.

I got into my tuck, as I was leaving the parking lot, I felt like my truck was starting to stutter a little, it then stalled once I was out on the road. I got it to start again, this time it was really stuttering badly, and barely wanting to run. I was able to get into another parking lot, and as I was stopping in the parking space it stalled again. I can get it to start, but it runs terribly, almost like half the engine is not firing or something, I can smell gas and exhaust as it sputters, and it doesn't idle properly at all. Oddly enough no check engine light came on for this event. When it tries to run, the whole truck shakes, and the more I think about it, it feels like the entire driver's side bank of cylinders aren't firing, there's a smell of very very rich exhaust, almost like I can smell raw gas in the fumes. I did have a small exhaust leak on that side of the engine, I had all but one of the bolt on the manifold drilled and replaced (one couldn't be reached as part of the body was in the way, and no one was in the mood to drop the engine, et alone pay for the additional labor that would have cost me), as all but 2 were broken off, not sure if this has anything to do with the issue or not.

You will have to check all the plugs and wires/coils. You're right. One heck of a misfire.

I'm anxious to get home from work and start looking into this, I had it towed home and got my mom to come give me a ride to work, thankfully my insurance has tow coverage. I'm really starting to dread what I'll find.

From the photo, it looks like you are out of gas, have no battery, and no oil pressure. Those would definitely make the tach read zero.

I can only wish thats all it took to fix this. my honest fear is that I'll find the engine to be rather trashed. And I know these engines are much pricier than the older style 5.2 and 5.9 to replace. If it is a serious issue, I'll probably replace it rather than doing any major repairs to an engine with 202K miles.

Sounds almost like one bank isn't firing. The 4.7 is a mystery to me, but maybe there's a connector for that bank's injectors or coils. Maybe there's something blocking fuel to that bank. Maybe even a timing chain issue with one bank. Again just shooting in the dark here.

Well, update time: I believe the issue is in cylinder 1, we pulled the spark plug and it was wet with gas, and Dad got a code out of it about a cylinder 1 injector open circuit. We still should probably pull another plug or two on that same bank just to see if they're wet too.

I'll have to check the wiring, though the cyl. 1 spark plug was wet with gas, so maybe spark? But we did get a injector code. The fuel line coming from the tank actually connects to that side of the rail, and then it crosses over to the other side, so that shouldn't be it.
