only drained 2 gallons of coolant so far...
hey i am flushing the coolant in my 2000 dodge durango and so far i have only been able to get about two gallons out, i read online that there is about 5 gallons in the 5.9 ltr which is what i have, i opened the petcock and pumped most of the fluid in the overflow tank, if anybody could hook it up with the trick to get the rest out it wouldnt be greatly appreciated!! thx
hey don thank you i found that picture in the chiltons manual but i am having trouble finding that plug or it looks like its behind a whole bunch of metal support stuff that i rly dont want to mess with. i pulled the lower radiator hose and now i have about a total of two gallons out! i kno there is supposed to b about 3.5 gallons of coolant in the engine
I try not to mess with freeze plugs. (Bad experience). I'd rather drain and fill a few times, as it would have been 50x cheaper for me back then. One good thing about the 4.7L... I hate where the thermostat's at (lowest point on engine), but love it in a way, because when I pull it, the whole motor drains.

If you remove one of the lower left bolts on the water pump coolant should drain out there. Jack the rear if the truck up pretty high. Should get almost all of it out. That's been my experience at least. May not be all, but it got a LOT out.
