Red face p0505

Hello fellow dodge owners, i have recently bought a 1999 durango 5.9L SLT
it has a check engine light on for the air control valve (p5050). i have replaced it and can not get the light to turn of and has a ruff idle when sitting. i have done some digging on car fax about 5,000 miles ago some one had replace the ACV once already and put a new through control valve on too.
if any one could shed some light on it, would be vary appreciated.

Thank you.

Unplug the IAC, turn the ignition on, see if you are getting 12 volts on TWO of the wires.

Should be only two wires getting 12 volts. (with it disconnected.) If that's the case, replace the IAC. Get one from the dealer though, I have had no luck with the aftermarket fellers. They don't seem to react fast enough, nor are they as accurate.

Do you recall which 2 wires should be getting the 12 volt reading? I assume that the ground probe should be a grounded surface when probing, correct? Thanks

Which two depends on the computers mood. Yeah, just ground the black probe, and then check all four wires. Two should have power. The other two are grounds, so, you won't hurt anything checking all four.

Me too. I ran the whole diagnostic tree and wound up getting my PCM repaired. No issues since.
