steering feels loose
on bad roads i see all the other trucks some older than my 03 drive alot faster than me. when i try to speed up the steering feels very loose overall. is there anything i can do to stiffen the overall driving experience is there anything worth upgrading in the front end to make it better. any tips will do.
There are quite a few things outside of the steering column that can cause the steering to feel sloppy. When some items wear they not only affect steering, but can cause clunking over rough roads and bumps, etc. I can rock my steering wheel while doing 60 now and it still feels tight. Google how to test these items and change the worn out ones.
Worn tie rods
Worn ball joints (usually the uppers) .... I replaced the riveted uppers and lowers with bolt-in greasables
Worn endlinks .... I replaced with Moog greasables
Worn sway bar bushings
Worn front wheel bearings (hubs) .... replaced last year. Really helps with that unsure/darting or vauge feeling when going around corners
Worn intermediate steering shaft

The fact that steering apparently does not feel loose on a good road, I doubt the steering is bad at all. It's more likely the vehicle is dancing around do to normal suspension limits on various road conditions. You don't get perfect control in all road conditions at any speed.
