Default P0500 issue

Hello all,

I have a 99 Durango 5.2 SLT. I am getting the speedometer P0500 error. Speedometer does not work. Tach does work. I took it to a shop and they told me the harness going to the rear speed sensor (on the differential) was all chewed up. He replaced the sensor as well as the harness. However, the speedometer still isn't working and the error code keeps coming back.

Could this be an ECU issue? I really hope not. I'm tired of dumping money into this heap.

Thanks,

Derek

What brand sensor did the garage install? Verify you are getting the 5 volt signal back to the sensor as well.

Not sure what brand. Mechanic said he got it from the local Dodge dealer. Also claimed sensors we're working, tested with ohm meter.

I did notice he didn't pull the negative battery. Not sure if the ECU needs to be reset with a sensor swap.
