Question Cold low RPM idle

Any help greatly appreciated. I have a 98 SLT with 318. When cold it will not idle. I have a check engine light. After holding rpms at around a thousand for a few minutes, it will idle fine. Also, the exhaust sounds muffled.

I don’t have a code reader. Now this crazy. Today I cranked it up and it ran fine and no check engine light. It appears that if the battery is disconnected or if battery gets real low it acts that way. I’m confused as crap.

weak battery will do some crazy things on mid to late 90s Dodges.... learned that on my 96 full size, my 97 Wrangler, Mom's 98 Intrepid (a couple times) and in my years I used to work at Sears when we would have the center of the shop lined up bumper to bumper to get new batteries especially in the winter.
