Default Rear differential overhaul

So I decided to change my rear diff fluid and noticed a ton of ground metal, and pieces of a clutch pack floating around.

I ordered a master overhaul kit (bearings, seals, shims, gasket, etc) and new clutches.

this link was extremely helpful: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...c-lok-lsd.html

I have a 9.25” rear with a 3.55 ratio and an 8” front.

When I put it back together the threads on the pinion stripped, so because I had to replace it I decided to finally change the gear ratio to 4.10.

this link was very helpful: https://www.*********.com/threads/du...summary.68272/

I still have to change the front gear ratio, and when I pop it open I hope there won’t be any surprises.

anyway the rear ended cost me something like $500 bucks including royal purple gear oil, ring/pinion, and bearings. It took a few days since I had never done it but I think I could do one in a day now.

Part of a clutch pack.

A small fraction of the flakes I collected

Progress

Wonder how long I drove around like this

WOW I think you were lucky. You could have ended up like how my rear was when I bought it. I had to trailer mine home.
Here it is under D still

And here it is out and everything opened up.

If you look you can see the Pinion gear NOT in the right spot. I already have a new to me axle installed. Now just finishing up everything. I have 3.98 gears in mine.
