Default mistery coolant leak

Hi all,

6 months ago my water pump went. I replaced the pump, the bypass hoses and did the job right (all new parts)

Last week I went on a long trip and started overheating.

Got her home and pressurized the system. I have a 20' + driveway and I can see coollant dropping off the crank. It's running from the passenger side of the block near the crank but can't see anything else.

ANy idea where it might be coming from? I dont' want to pull the pump if its not a common issue.

Thanks

What engine? Set your phone to snap pics by voice and snap a bunch of pics of the area while it's leaking. That sometimes works when you can't stick your head in there. You might have to pull the fan shroud, belt, etc so you can take a good look.

Ugh. Sorry. 318/5.2

I've pulled the upper shroud. I'll try the picture thing but I can only guess that it would come from the pump or the bypass on the pump. right?

I have the 4.7L, so hard for me to tell you. Remove whatever you can that's in the way, so you can get a good look at it as you pressurize it.

Found it. looks like the gasket failed on the water pump. It's dripping right from the base of the pump on the crank. Nothing like doing a job twice.

Is it the gasket that failed, or is the coolant coming out the weep hole, running down the pump, and then dripping off at the lowest point?

Check for green stains at the weep hole. What brand pump did you put on? Warranty? You might have gotten a bad pump. Especially if it's a rebuilt unit.

Kind of a long shot, but if it is a 4.7 Durango with rear heat, it might be the auxiliary pump up on the firewall...or it could be a freeze plug...year and motor would help nail it down...
