Default Transfer case

I'm looking to rebuild my leaking transfer case on my 98 Durango. The site lists 2 different types, one with a 16mm input bearing and 62mm OD rear main bearing and the other with a 24mm input bearing.

How do I know which one to get.

Also are there any upgrade or anything available while I'm down there?

You need to identify the transfer case you have first, then get the correct parts for the transfer case you have. You'll have either an nv231 (only part time 4wd) or a nv242 (part and full time 4wd).

There might be a BOM (bill of materials) number on the t-case, and you should be able to look up which bearing it has with that. Or, disassemble it, and have a look.

How would I go about looking it up? The transmission could take 3 weeks so that's too long for me to take it apart now.

Go no New Venture Gears' website. They should have that option somewhere.

If it helps, the durangos technically use a 242D. I believe this is different than the jeep version, possibly stronger.

I read this in a jeep forum about the NV242. Is this accurate?
