Default Durango transfer case

I have a 2003 durango slt, recently I was off-road and the truck stopped driving in awd. It would shudder and shake and make grinding noises when I tried to drive forward. I was able to drive it home in 4 hi and think this is an issue with a transfer case. Is that correct or could it be something else? If so I know someone selling a 2003 v6 dakota transfer case for a reasonable price, would this work on my durango? Thanks for any help!

What t-case do you have in yours? I don't think the dakota t-case will be the same, as I don't believe they were ever offered with AWD...... but, I've been wrong before.

I believe the t-case in my truck is an nv244 and the one from the dak is a 233d

According to this thread, its a direct bolt in. Shift pattern will be different though, obviously. (no full time 4wd on the NV233 case.)

Make sure both of your driveshafts are still connected.

I have done more research and it looks like it will bolt in, but I contacted a Dodge dealer near me and they told me I would need to get a pcm programmed for a 233 to make the swap work.

Yeah, if you have electronic controls, that will likely be an issue.

I do have electronic controls, but I haven't read anything about changing out the pcm in any posts where people swapped from a 233 to a 244. I dont know why it would be any different going the other way around.

Different shift patterns, so, the controller is likely different...... Can try it, and see what happens.....
