Default clunk when turning end to end

Hi all,

My vehicle started making a clunk sound yesterday. If I stay parked and turn the wheel end to end it sometimes makes a clunk sound.

Today i turned the wheel all the way to the right, put it in reverse and started to move and clunk. Pretty lound and harsh.

it's a 2wd. any thoughts?

305??? That's a Chevy motor. should be 5.2 (318) or 5.9 (360)

Does that have rack and pinion steering? Or does it have a steering box bolted to the drivers side frame rail?

I know on the 2nd gen full sized trucks, there was a bushing in the lower steering column that would give a nice thump when turning.... but, could be all sorts of things, from sway bar bushings to ball joints. If you can get it to make the noise just sitting still, have someone else turn the steering wheel, while you go looking for the source.

Click on your username, up in the right corner, where it shows who you are logged in as, go to your user control panel, in the column on the right, there should be a link to edit your signature.

Agree with HeyYou. You should be able to get under it while someone turns the wheel and pinpoint what's causing it, with something that loud and harsh. I know the sway bar end links can make those sounds by the way they swing when you go full lock. Ball joints usually clunk over bumps and pot holes... they both do, for that matter, at least that's my experience.

Note: If you put a jack on the lower control arm, it loads the suspension and you can grab and move the wheel around, or lever things with a pry bar.
