Default accertate by itself

Hi my wife has a 2000 dodge durango with the 4.7 L in it.The other day she was coming home had the cruise set then out of the blue the engine just started to race she hit the brakes and that didnt cut out the cruise so she pressed as hard as she could on the brakes so it would slow down. her gages were all screwy after and the information sensor was lit she got home and parked it.I just checked for codes and started it everything seems to be fine now any ideas??? TYIA

That had to be exciting...... Something freaked out, but, figuring out what it was, is gonna be difficult..... Me? I don't have any idea. If it happens again, try dropping it into neutral, or just turning off the ignition... (but, not all the way back to lock please.....)

Moving this to Durango section for ya. Maybe someone there will have a better idea.

I had this happen to me awhile ago, there's a switch towards the top of the brake pedal and mine had broken, but it controls the brake lights and tells cruise to turn off when you press on the brakes. It was a pretty inexpensive part and an easy (10 minute) repair.
