Well, that will certainly give you a misfire...... If you have an air compressor, you could do a leak down test, that'll tell ya where the compression is going.

What I don't get is why all 8 plugs are black but there's only a compression issue on the passenger side of the engine.

Ok so I finally took the valve cover off which was a huge pain. It was a rocker, one fell off the top of a valve but didn't damage anything. My mechanic says that the valve seat probably came off or is messed up and that if I put new rockers on that a new rocker would probably just fall off too and it happen all again. I'm waiting for a different mechanic to call me back about replacing the cylinder head or entire engine. This has been so frustrating and stressful I can't wait till it's all over one way or another whether I just replace the vehicle or get the engine fixed.

I have no idea if it was burning oil with this issue but it didn't before the issue.

Winner winner chicken dinner!.... Okay, so is the mechanic assuming that a valve issue caused it? Usually IT is what causes valve issues. If he's just guessing, then I'd say the cause is the lifters (really hydraulic lash adjusters) go bad and seize up, which then ejects the rocker. If so, your engine is not bad, just needs new lifters. Again, been there and done that.

Bore scope, and have a look inside the cylinder in question. If the valves look good, replace the lifters. ALL of them.

My newest mechanic can mess with all that if he chooses to do the engine.

Today my one friend who's a mechanic and I managed to put the rocker back on and it was so loose that it just fell out again because the valve is not closing all the way. It's the very first valve on Cylinder 2 towards the front of the engine. I think my one mechanic was right in that the valve seat came off and is not letting it close all the way. Either way I'm done messing with it, it will be someone else's issue or the scrap yards issue depending on the rebuild price, lol.

If the rocker is off, you can pull the corresponding lifter out with your fingers and try working the plunger. My guess is, it's frozen. Cost nothing to check. Yes, it could be a valve problem but could also be a bad lifter, or both. At this point, you should change them anyway if u you end up keeping the engine.

Since you're scopin thru the spark plug hole at the top of the cylinder, and the valves are up there too, it made me wonder if you'd even be able to see the valves? Unless you had a really good fisheye view, or one of these....
