Default Exhaust cracked at downpipe

2000 D 5.2L

Firstly, what is this piece called? I've searched the internet to find a replacement, and for the life of me, can not.

Second, removing looks to be a mess, everything is super rusty and I'm afraid i won't be able to get it out once I start.

Id like to weld it up and reinstall, but, i want to be sure i can locate a replacement in case i mess up...

Can anybody help me with a name / where I might find this Y pipe piece before i dive into this project?

It is indeed a y-pipe. Should be able to find 'em on Jegs, or Summit, or Rock Auto, along with numerous other places. Probably could even order one from your local parts store.....

I did rock auto with no luck, didn't think about the other 2. RA not having anything kinda got me worried in a hurry. I'll continue my hunt.

Being afraid I'm going to have to cut something to get it out anyways... is there a benefit to leaving the cat, or should that be the point I create some wiggle room?

If you have inspections, gotta have the cat. If you don't, well, it IS required by federal law..... but, I don't recall ever being questioned about my cat when I got pulled over for various things.... Nor did the cops look under whatever it was I was driving.

Magnaflow might make a direct fit replacement, if the cat is part of the y-pipe.

Take it to a muffler shop and have them give you a price quote. Shouldn't be too crazy.

We would have just welded something like that up, and called it a day. Worst case, with a welder, and a pipe bender, could make a new one.
