Default 46RE question

I have a 2000 Durango 4x4 5.9 46RE trans is burnt,,,,i bought a 2001 46RE to replace it,and i thought it would go right in,but a friend said 2001 is not compatible because of neuteral safety switch,,i need to know before i start this PIA job..

Have a look at the switch, it is right below where the shift linkage goes into the trans. 3 wire vs. 5 wire. If your truck has the 3 wire, I do believe there is a conversion kit available to flip the trans to the 3 wire.

so other than the NSS i should not have any other surprise problems ( other than the weight of this trans ) as far as electric plugs ''

So far as I know, the NSS was the only thing that changed between those years.
