Default Rebuilding 46RE. Unusual damage? to OD Direct Clutch Housing

What do you all make of this wavy pattern on the outside of the clutch housing? I also included an image of the inside of the overdrive housing itself. Thanks y'all.

Ok, that's different..... If that is supposed to be smooth, I would replace it.

I am. The splines on the inside are damaged as well. Whats odd the how many splines there are compared to a typical 46re OD direct clutch drum.

If you are referring to the kickdown band or reverse band then no, no damage at all. Those, of course, dont come in contact with the overdrive section of the unit. The only damage I found in the whole transmission was this drum and wear on the overdrive planet to hub where the bearing sits on the hub. This part....

I wonder if that allowed the drum to rub against something...... Or if the waveys are in there to better distribute fluid???? I haven't seen a new one..

I cant even find another drum that looks like this anywhere. I just ended up buying the typical type like this:

That looks like it was manufactured that way. Probably a course cut that took off to much material. You can see the edge where it is wavy, If this was done by wear you would see a lip or something. So much for quality control.

I was thinking that as well because you can see chatter marks in the cut. I still don't understand why the inside is cut so much differently than a typical 46re drum.
