2001 Durango 5.9L Harness Replacement
My 2001 Durango is throwing the P0141 and P0161 error codes. I replaced the O2 sensor, checked the fuse, and swapped the relay with one that works. I even replaced the PCM with one that was flashed with my VIN. Still getting the same error codes and the vehicle runs as it did before these changes … which is actually pretty good. Sometimes there is a slight rough idle sitting at a traffic light. I did have a power steering fluid leak which has been fixed.
I’m thinking there may be a short in the harness. My problem is that I can’t find a competent mechanic to work on my vehicle. I have contacted the Dodge dealerships in my area and they say they don’t work on vehicles older than 2008. The reason given is that they don’t have anyone proficient with the older style computers, etc. I’m not really knowledgeable enough or have the equipment to do anything but the easy things myself. How hard is it to replace the harness? Is it something I could do myself if I could find one?
I hate just replacing parts and hoping for the best each time but what is is alternative? Ideally a skilled mechanic would go segment by segment to isolate the short if that is the problem. The non dealership mechanics I have talked to have little more knowledge than I do. This is so frustrating! Would appreciate any help.

You could replace the entire harness..... but, not cheap, and not exactly easy. There is a LOT of connections under the hood on that harness.... Easier would be to figger out both ends of the wires for the problematic system, and check 'em for shorts, or short to ground.... fix what's broke... Yep, it's tedious, but, easier than replacing the harness, and then figgering out what problems THAT introduced....
