Default Code Readers and Scanners

Hey all....

Looking for some input in regards to OBD scanners and code readers. From my understanding the stealership uses an OBDIII tool to read our Durango's. Is there an affordable aftermarket tablet/scanner/reader that will do all the things that the OBDIII at the dealership will do? Specifically I want to look into the TCM on my '00 Durango as well as being able to program remotes/keys for the '01. I have been looking on Amazon for something similar to the OBDIII such as
Amazon Amazon

I have seen emulator software out there for sale but that is 3k plus a special laptop on top of it....

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
Steve

The one you linked doesn't look too bad, there are better (and worse) scanners out there, but, you pay a premium price for the really good ones.

Is there anyplace that describes the difference between OBDII and OBDIII that the stealership uses? My neighbor has a Autel scanner with all sorts of adapters (similar to this one: https://www.obdprice.com/products/au...stic-scan-tool) but at times he cannot see stuff the dealer should be able to....am i missing something?

Thanks

Steve

I don't think OBDIII is a thing yet. Dodge dealers used to use a DRBIII though?

Every manufacturer has some 'specific' stuff in their programming, that you need a fairly high-zoot scanner to read/play with. And that is only getting worse with literally EVERYTHING being computer controlled/influenced..... You can spend thousands on a scanner, and there will likely STILL be things it won't do....
