Default 2000 46RE does not circulate fluid in park?? I read someplace

I read someplace that the 46RE transmission in Park is not circulating the fluid through the Cooler?? Is this correct ??I thought the Transmission operated basically the same as far as valve body and fluid circulation rather in P or N just the parking Lever thing engaged (in Park) keeping vehicle from rolling.
Then again I started working on a 65 Dart GT back in 85 where there was a Push Button panel on Dash and you placed car in Neutral, then moved a Lever to actually be in park.
This to me seems like a very bad Idea as wouldn't the thing possibly overheat if it ran to long while in park?
I know I remember many times working on my other cars where I woudl take it out run up the road a Mile or so then back, then while in park make carb adjustments or timing etc and with a tranny already up to temp it would just sit there and get hotter and hotter with no cooling.
I may be missing something here maybe they do not create any extra heat when in park, I have not actually checked temp of the tranny while it is running in park before but I think I am going to now.

Yep, fluid does not completely circulate in park. That's why all the manuals tell you to check fluid in neutral. Various aftermarket trans improver kits have instructions for altering the valve body and separator plate so the fluid DOES circulate in park.
