ATF+3 and ATF+4 Fluids.
Oh this is typical, In my Owners manual (the one that is in Glove compartment) it shows that the 46RE is supposed to be filled with ATF+3 but the Haynes manual as well as the Dodge Dealer service manual says ATF+4.
So I am curious why would dodge mislead people on what to use in for fluid in the Owners manual, If I did not want to know all I can find about everything in the Durango I could of been someone that looked at the user manual and used ATF+3.
Ibelieve ATF+3 is Mineral based and ATF+4 is Synthetic and I be there are a bunch of additives that are different as well.
I only mention this as I thought it was rather interesting to recommend the incorrect fluid in of all things the Owners manual.
I run across things like this way to much now days and in cases where it can possibly cause damage it is sad .
One I just seen when looking up fluid capacities that is just Pathetic is listed for Differentials to use 75W-90 GL-5 Gear Lube or ATF+4 WTF?? These are not even close to the same thing, I wonder how many people have used ATF+4 in there differentials and had them fail, This could be a fatal mistake especially if the diff seizes up at say 70 MPH or so.
