Default Durango First Generation Transmission Issues.

Hello group, this is a first for me,on asking for advice in the computer.
Anyway,my wife has a 1999 Duraogo,5.9 engine 4x4 with the 46RE transmission.Ok, it went out,I bought a used 46RE trans from a 2001 Ram,it was 4wheel drive and also had a 5.9 engine.I was familiar with the truck it came from, changed out the trans,it preforms as I believe it should.Goes in gear quickly,no slippage,no noises and runs through the gears.
My problem is the trans temp light,as well as the OD off light are both illuminated on the dash. The temperature light comes on a couple minutes after it's started, the overdrive off light is on as soon as it's started.
Could it be the computer isn't recognising the transmission,it being from a 3 year newer vehicle?I know there are many possibilites but any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.
Ron

Electronics mismatch. Things changed in 2000, and the sensor is different. You need sensors an trans interior harness from a 99 or older. Welcome to DF. You actually want to be in the 1st Gen Durango Section. I'll move your thread there.

Hello,I thank you for that information and "moving" me to the correct place.
I had heard a little about the year differences, can I use the harness out of our old trans and buy(to be safe) any sensors that is needed?
Thanks again.

Yep. Sure can. Need the retainer for the pressure sensor, or solenoid as well.

Well, our 1999 Durango is back on the road once again, thanks to the expert advice from "Hey You"here on the forum.
The used 2001 46RE transmission I installed just needed the correct electrical components and wiring in order to be recognized by the PCM.Wasn't a hard job,a real joy{?} compared to removing the old trans and replacing it.Thankfully,I didn't have to pull it back out.
Again,I sure do appreciate the help on this.
Ron.
