fuse blowing my mind
Did it again, the 20A fuse for the horn/ac comp. keeps blowing. I have isolated the horns and installed a new relay, still blows. Wife said it blew this morning when she turned on the heat/defrost, so, could it be the heat-air-defrost **** switch??? This is a 30,000mi. 2000 Durango, we bought new. What are the weak points in such a low mile vehicle such as this??? Thanks, guys.
I FINALLY FIXED IT !!!!! Always check the simple things first, right. Well I never thought to look at the battery, but the positive terminal was highly corroded (short culprit) under the red rubber cover and the negative terminal was on its way. I cleaned both terminals, installed new fuse, ran the a/c, heat, defrost & blew the horn at the same time over and over. Spring is around the corner and the wife was beginning to get concerned about the a/c, alls well now. A BIG THANKS to hydrashocker and chump for the informative feedback.
Same here, never thought a corroded battery terminal would blow fuses? maybe it is because the alternator is sending spike voltages or power in trying to charge the battery thinking it is nearly depleted?
I have a 2000 D also but I have installed those anti-corrosive pads on my battery posts and even sprayed some anti-corrosive coating on the posts so they still look new today. Luckily I did or I may have experienced something similar to what you experienced.

i lost the battery in my D last week. gave no notice just BAM would not start. new battery fixed it right up. never had one die like that. as for the corrosion i ahev all gold connectors to the battery. seems to never corrode so i recommend going that way. just be careful not to over tighten.
possibly when the ac kicked in the high amp loud it takes to start up and the very littel jucie it was getting from the corroded battery may have had sometihng to do with the fuse blowing goodness.

The AMP load on start up for the A/C comes from the battery, therefor blowing the fuse because of resistance due to bad connections.
