hello all, still new to the forums, i have a 1998 durango slt, 4wd, 5.2 auto, i need to get a new trans for it, but here is the kicker, i don't know which one i have, no idea wether its a 44re,45re, or 46re, is there anyway i can tell? is it stamped on top of the tranny casing??also is there another tranny that will work if my exact one is not available for a decent price?? thanx for any helpful responses, and yes, i am sure the trans is shot,lol.

welcome as for your tranny question the 46 re will work in your truck you will need the computer flashed to read it also the 48 re out of deisel models those internals will swap right into the 46 re,that way your tranny will handle over 600 ft lb and over 500 hp with no problems

 

now another question,lol , if i drop it in myself, will it be drivable, to get it to the dodge dealership to have them reflash it, oe is there anything i can do it??

 

check inside the glove box. should tell you what tranny you have. at least thats what it says in my 98 durango

 

rebel. i checked today, all it said was 4spd auto trans

 

oops. sorry about that. thought mine said what kind of 4 spd. i was wrong. still got alot to learn since im a former chevy truck owner.

 

its ok rebel, i know the feeling, i am usually a 3rd gen firebird guy,lol, can anyone here tell me wher to look for a part number??
