Default colder a/c ?????????????

i have an 01 durango puttin out over 450 hp but i noticed that the a/c was not that cold in traffic so i went on jeggs and got a thermo sheild wrap #893-14002 and wrapped the cold side of the a/c lines plus i ordered #893-17062 and put it around the lines on the passenger side close to the headers i was really surprised just those two things (cost $28) for both made a big difference then i added a 12 inch electric fan to the condencer and now it will be 90 or above and my a/c is nice and cold ......hope it helps

If you have the extra cooling package or tow package or something like that for your Durango, it will come with a bigger radiator and secondary electric fan to supplement cooling. My R/T has it and my A/C is ice cold. The only bad thing I have to say about the design of the 1st generation D's is the fan blower performance sux. the far end driver/passenger vents do not put out very much air even at high speed. At least my overhead A/C console for the rear passengers blows really good. All other cars/trucks, etc that I have ever driven, the fan blower is way many times more powerful. The high speed setting on my D has the same air pressure as the 2nd from lowest setting on my nissan. I guess import vehicle A/C systems are well designed as they can freeze your butt off and blow your hat off your head.

I wonder if they improved the airflow design on the 2nd generation D's?

I wonder if there is a blower motor replacement that can blow alot more air than the OEM motor?

i had a clutch fan and an electric fan (factory option),but in traffic on a 95 temp it would not blow near as cool,im sure all the motor mods make a big difference on the a/c but i would suggest that if...your a/c is not as cold as you would like try these simple mods first before you spend big bucks

There is nothing wrong as far as the temperature output coming out of the vents. on a 100 degree day, I still have ice cold air coming out. But my only complaint is the air volume flowing out the vents is very poor. A/C takes at least 10-15 minutes to cool down the interior if my D was sitting out in the sun for a good while. If I had at least more than double the air volume coming out of the vents, I suspect it would not take as long to cool. All other vehicles especially imports have some serious airflow power when it comes to cooling and heating the interior.

Where did you get your fan and how hard was it to install?

Welcome to the forums,

Please look at the FAQ's stickied to the top of this forum and within it, look for the viper fan discussion. This will answer all your questions concerning installing an additional electric fan.
