Governor on 2000 5.9?
Someone I know has a 2000 5.9 AWD Durango, and as usual, was bragging how his could beat our new Hemi Durango, and the Hemi isn't all its cracked up to be. So, was wondering if I could beat it, (its my moms but I drive it a lot) ours is the Limited AWD Hemi? Also, he said he past some cars, blah blah blah blah and was at 115 when he was done..can that be true? I thought they had governors at like 110 or less??
The speed limiter is controlled by the PCM and is set at about 110 MPH. From what I've read from other Durango owners it's pretty consistent. If you look at the 1/4 mile times between a 2000 R/T and a 2004 Hemi it's nearly identical. A slightly modified 5.9L would take a stock Hemi in my opinion. I drove an 04 back to back with mine in January on the same road course and speeds. The 5.9 low end is much better but the Hemi above 3,000 RPM's is freaking amazing! It would be a good race and could go either way just because of driver skill.
BTW - my speed governer is set at 128 MPH with the programmer. I've had the speedo pegged at 120 and let me tell you it's all you can do to keep it on the road. Like driving a brick

The funny part is that the Durango R/T isnt even the quickest one. The quickest one is the 2wd 4.7 if you can believe it. Only because of the 3.92 rear though. Yep the stock HEMI will spank any other stock Durango their is...
