Question blower

Same thing happened to us earlier this year on our '02. It was a quick 10 minute fix. Now we have the same thing happening on our 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. Could it be the same issue?

Thanks for the advice. I was up for an hour or two last night thinking of ways to fix it. I'm glad I checked my e mail today.

Default Resistor Wiring Harness Connector Burned Up

I have a 2002 Durango SLT and my blower motor resistor wiring harness connector just burned up. The Dealer wants $700 to fix it. I went to area junk yards to see if I could find and replace the part myself. I saw many Durangos with the connector and resistor already cut out. The staff all advised that they are a hot item that they can't keep in stock. Their view is that this frequent problem is the result of a design flaw that should have been the subject of a recall. They also suggested I try Ebay. Has Dodge taken a position on this problem? I would appreciate any other advice available.

i would not say it should be a recall, but it is a rather common problem with the factory resistor in there, it burns up and can take the harness with it, the new resistor is like $12 and solves the problem as long as your wire harness is good, if not you should be able to get one from a junkyard (as you already tried) or off of ebay, from a similar year dakota or durango (01-03 durango will definitely work, and i believe 01-04 durango too) im not 100% sure on older years since they had the resistor in a different place

Thumbs up Thanks for saving me my weeks pay!!!

here i was heading out of the woods from deer camp, 18 degrees and our first damn snowstorm and my heater dies!!! i can only get eat from forced air from driving and its damn cold. i got home and checked my fuses in the dash and under the hood, all looked fine. with the hood open, i had my buddy listen for any noise as i run through the heater fan speeds, and he heard and i later heard a light humming noise. so it totally makes sense that this resistor you speak of is my issue. the resistors magnetics have apparently burned out and thats electrical feedback your hearing. picture what happens when you hold 2 opposite poled magnets close to one another, they push apart. same idea with the resistor. i was all ready to either pay a mechanic friend of mine to diagnose and fix this, or tear the front of my durango apart to replace the blower motor myself. the damn thing had me boggled, thats for sure!! one day 2 or 3 speeds would work, then the next day the one that didnt work yesterday now works and the ones that DID work yesterday, dont today!!! hahaha then the coldest night and first snow storm it dies all together. anyway, thanks for being beyond helpful and saving me lots of time and money!! i will definitely join your forum
