actually, it was simply an opinion. i know quite a few people who have other chrysler products such as jeep wranglers, jeep cherokees, and dodge caravans with the same exact issue. so apparently its not just durangos and dakotas. maybe your just stuck in one forum and cant find your way out. lol yeah, im trying to get my post count up . ive been here only for a few days and trying to help people out. just because your .$02 amounts to people wanting change back, dont get mad at me. if i misread or missed something, oops my bad!!!

 

you dont know my history, and you only know about me on this forum, so before you go judging someone maybe you should know enough about them first, i have worked on and been on forums for many vehicles, most of which have been Chrysler motors products, these are the only vehicles (and personal experience, i do the work for most of my friends, who drive ALOT of jeeps) where i would call this a common problem, yes it occurs elsewhere, but not as much as it does here, im not sure why, but i know that is true, and im not sure what you last two sentences are supposed to mean, but i really dont care, i also dont know what you so called J.E.T. performance products is, but its not the jet company that everybody thinks of when they see that, and i couldnt find it at all. and about getting your post count up? what else would you call a post that has absolutely no effect of helping the OP but states your own dissatisfaction with something? thats a useless post by definition, do we all do it sometimes, yes, but most people wait until they are around for a while and know everyone else before doing it

I made the statement! You are saying you want to help people out, however you love to give one liners with no information for members to go on, just a bold statement like "you can buy one for $50 bucks". You want to say it then back yourself up and help the people by showing them where or a part number. You obviously have a complex and you need to get over yourself.

Girlfriend has a 2003 Dodge Durango and the heater blower stopped working. I stumbled upon this site and read this entire thread!! Lots of good info. I found it easyer to take out the two screws first to drop the resistor down so I can see it better. All was well, now I cant get the plug off of the resistor!! I looked for the slide piece but none to be found!! i can see the tab to squeese to release the resistor. I pulled and tried for an hour and cant get it to buge, I even tried with a screw driver. Called dealer and he said sometimes the plug melts to the resistor,if thats the case he said I need the wire set also. Is that why Iam having so much trouble in trying to get it off? The wires look fine no bare wires, I just need to get this off here. Did anyone else have issues in getting the plug off? Now I dont know what to do!!!

 

IIRC, the rear blower is located in the passenger rear wheel well insode the cabin. You will need to remove the third row seats(if you have them) to get to the unit. By my deduction, the resistor should be located in the same area.
@Arctic: If the resistor has melted to the harness, then you'll be needing a new resistor and wiring harness. Best bet is to get the new resistor from the dealer and the wiring harness from a junkyard pick and pull.

 

(dans01) with the wire harness, on the end you cut do you solder those wires together with yours? Or is there another trick in doing it?

 

i recommend soldering them together for the best connection, but some people have managed to crimp them together successfully too

 

I had the same problem!! It turns out the problem has the ignition switch on the steering column. With time the connections wear out and the result can be many strange electrical problems. It's a cheap fix that I would recommend.

 

Articpower28, when I changed mine the resistor had partially melted to the plug. I called the dealership and was able to get the plug and wires for $75. This worked well, but I believe I purchased one of the "cheap" resistors as my blower is now back to one speed, high. I will replace the resistor again but will seek out a better one. Just thought I would post as I was told to replace the wiring harness, ( hard to find even at salvage yards ) and was able to replace just the plug and resistor. Good luck.
