Question melted plug

My 2001 blower only worked on high like everyone else's then not at all. went to the auto parts store and bought blower resistor for 15.99. went to replace it and the resistor and and the plug it goes in to were melted together. finally got them apart but I now have to find a plug. called the parts store and they said i had to go through a dealership. Can i buy just the plug and do i have to buy the whole harness. I need the plug with the wires coming off of it maybe 4 inches or so, then I can splice it at least. Any suggestions....cowgirlc6

go to a junk yard and cut what you need out of a wrecked truck, its your cheapest option, and the quickest too (as long as you have a yard nearby)

Go to a bone yard and get a new harness.

+2 sharp Go to salvage yard and cut off harness. Connector should b along passengers side front floor, resistor is just to the left of the glove compartment (facing the front of the vehicle. Follow harness and on the salvage yard vehicle, cut as far up as you can, my far up I mean closest to the firewall as you can. You will want extra to have enough to cut off in case the splicing and crimping doesnt go as planned. When you get it yo your vehicle, you want to cut as close to the resistor end, that should give you plenty of wire to splice back insulation, wire crimp and replace. Electrical tape or wire loom and zip tie excess as necessary.

Salvage yard harness, if you are paying more than $25 you are 1. getting robbed or 2. Living in New Jersey..... LOL!! Sharp, Fast, I couldnt help my self.

Helpful hint, Use a junk resistor or the one already in there for troubleshooting the new repair. I tried my harness on all speeds one at a time until I got all speeds working then put the dealer resistor in the housing. Basically if you get a short and it fries you aren't out a brand new resistor.

My harness was bad, but the resistor was fine, a little melting around the power side, but it was the plastic shell caused by too much amps on the motor. R/R harness if it fails again you might have to go with a new motor but start simple.

My repair was a $25 harness (which included a resistor that worked fine.) and about $10-15 in miscellaneous connectors, wire loom, tape and zipties.

Welcome to the forum, what part of the country is your D from? Daily Driver, weekend escape, off road etc...... Tell us a bit about your D other than the a/c wiring harness is bad.... A common item.....This harness is one of those items that is kind of hig priority item because this fan not only controls the fan speed for A/C in the summer but also controls the windshield defroster and passenger cabin heat in the winter.

FYI Don't fall for the dealer harness!! It is a universal harness which includes the wires and connectors.... you still have to build the wires, pins and connector yourself, or pay their labor rate to install. Local rate MSP Area was $75 for harness plus about another $100 to build.

I recommend Solder and shrink wrap but it is one of those has to be done right type of deals, each time you screw it up and have to peel back more wire insulation you are reducing the length of cable.... hence the reason I say get as much as you can.

Also verify the harness color coding but a 01-04 Dodge Dakota harness might work, the resistor and harness are the same. This might give you some more flexibility in the salvage yard...

Welcome again, Gold Luck!!!

Default Blower Resistor

I have an 02 Durango and have replaced the resistor however I still have problems with the fan. It cuts out and is a random problem. The rear fan is working fine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Sounds like a short in the harness to resister. Have you looked there?
