'98 Headlight probs.

RE: '98 Headlight probs.
Update on the prob....wasn't the headlight bulb, and wasnt the headlight switch. Turned out it was indeed the multifunction switch. Interesting thing is, is that on the main wiring harness where the switch connects into, there was evidence of it being what looked like melting or burning on the harness itself. The guys at dealership said this was a common prob with the Durangos and Dakotas for this year, and they fixed harness without replacing the whole harness itself. Anyone else had this happen? and if so was there any probs afterward with it?. I'm a little concerned that with the melting on the harness it might happen again. Heck of a place to get into and put out a fire if need be!

RE: '98 Headlight probs.
Hi,
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the Daytime Running Lights module?
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500, just imported it into Canada, I have ordered a Hamsar DRL module but I have no idea which one is for sure the ignition wire. I mean... I know that it should be a dark blue wire, but I'm not sure if the one I think it is is really the ignition wire. This one (I've removed the trim panel under the steering wheel) looks thicker than the other wires. Can anyone tell me if I've identified the right wire? [&:]
thanks

RE: '98 Headlight probs.
I've got the same "non-working headlights" problem. Switching the high beams on and then off worked for a while but then the low beams wouldn't cooperate any more. I replaced the headlight switch in the dash and the problem didn't go away. The multi-function switch that some of you have replaced - is this the switch assembly that has the turn signal and high/low beam switch on the steering column that you're talking about? Should I try replacing this next??

RE: '98 Headlight probs.
I see no one mentioned about a relay that may be at fault? I am sure the switch itself cannot be the primary power switching for the headlights as those headlights draw alot of amperage. Check for a power relay control under the hood or possibly near the fuseblock. If you changed the switch and got no results, I would bet my money on a possible bad power switching relay. Once you found it, maybe a good tapping on the relay may get it unstuck?
